Bangladesh is an agro-based over populated country and still striving hard for rapid development of its economy. Food security for increasing population is the serious challenge for Bangladesh. Continuous efforts are giving to increase the agricultural production with limited resources. Infestation of insect pests is the major constrain in the sustainable and desirable production of agricultural crops.
Current methods for controlling insect pests mainly include cultural control, mechanical control, biological control, and the use of chemical insecticides. However, for farmers, the favorite method is still the application of chemical insecticides, which cause severe environmental pollution, the resurgence of target insects and the development of insect resistance to insecticides (Hagen et al. 1973). Further, most insecticides show high toxicity to non-target arthropods including biological control agents (Wu et al. 2007, Prasad et al. 2007, Jhansi et al. 2010).
My research interest is to the development of eco-friendly sustainable integrated management strategies of insect pests and to correlate the insect’s behavior with environmental parameters such as temperature, rainfall, relative humidity etc.
